BOGRA,
Nov 2:?Due to extreme traffic jam, people of Bogra have
to face a miserable condition everyday. Though this acute
traffic jam paralyses all main and busiest roads of the
town the concerned authorities have no headache to free
people from this unbearable and inexplicable acute situation.
Sufferer
people feel poor and weak traffic system, insufficient traffic
islands, inactive signal lights, pana of footpath, large
number of unlicensed rickshaws with other causes are the
root of this acute traffic jam. This traffic jam which is
very common at Thana road, Nababbari road, Sherpur road,
Station road, Grohail road, Merina road, Tinpatti road,
Borogola road Dattbari, Challopara, Jhautola, Namazgar areas
cause acute sufferings to the general people including students,
service men and serious patients. Small number of traffic
police faces a great trouble to control a large number of
vehicles of different kinds. Only one traffic police is
engaged at every busiest point to control situation whereas
two or three are needed. Again ignoring the prohibition
trucks or large vehicles enter the town on day and cause
hard traffic jam. Footway for passerby is not sufficient.
The small number of footway is now under the control of
hockers. There are no fixed Zebra crossings to cross road.
Along with most of the roads in Bogra town are narrow. Consequently
traffic jam always occur on these narrow roads all day long.
The frequent plying of illegal rickshaw, van and tempo is
one of the main causes of traffic jam. About eighteen to
twenty thousands rickshaw's van usually ply on the roads
of Bogra town. Most of them are unlicensed and unregistered.
Most of the rickshaws, van stands are in the heart points
of Bogra. Again the railway track crossed Bogra twon near
the ero point of the town. So traffic jam for eight times
is a routine matter everyday. The communication between
North and South Bogra is totally cut off when the train
passes and a long serious traffic jam occurs that time which
takes more hours to clear.
Municipal Chairman Adv Rezaul Karim Muntu informs that only
about five thousand licensed and legal rickshaw plys on
road everyday out of 18/20 thousands rickshaws. The Municipality
does not have sufficient manpower to seize illegal rickshaws.
With this limited manpower they will start to seize illegal
rickshaws within short time.
He
adds, police need to be more active to control this vehicle
jams. Though it is strictly prohibited that the truck would
not enter the town during 9 0'clock of the morning to 8
o'clock of the evening but for unknown reason a number of
trucks violet the law the mose of law enforcing authorities
nad stand at he heart points of some busy commercial areas
at businest time to load or unload goods, which is another
major cause of traffic jam. There are six markets, a lot
of stationary shops, offices situated around the heart point
of Bogra. None of them has any parking place. At the law
and order meetings presided over by Deputy Commissioner,
this acute traffic mismanagment has been discussed repeatedly
but no neceassary steps is found to control it. The people
of Bogra think that steps are urgently needed to stop this
unbearable Traffic jam.
